2319: January In Review

As January comes to a close, I find myself looking back with a quiet sense of pride. This month wasn’t about doing everything perfectly—it was about setting a foundation. Being more intentional with my health, my relationships, and my consistency as a whole. Showing up a little more thoughtfully than before.

January also felt long in the way only January can. The beginning of the month now feels almost surreal, with my favorite team making a deep playoff run and the belief that this could finally be the year. That confidence was followed quickly by loss, and with it came a strange sense of grief. The swing from euphoria to disappointment stayed with me, not in a negative way, but as something worth holding onto. It created space to reflect on the season itself and on how quickly moments pass when we are fully invested in them.

Following Ole Miss football gave my weeks a sense of structure. Saturdays had rhythm and meaning, and every win or loss shaped the momentum of the season. Even the coaching speculation toward the end added intensity. When that structure came to an end, it made me realize how much of late last year I had been moving on autopilot, pushing forward week after week until the calendar reset. That kind of momentum is natural, but reflection has a way of revealing when it is time to slow down and take inventory.

As the month progressed, my focus shifted forward. Not just a few weeks ahead, but months. Life will look different in six months, and I have started to see that change as something to welcome rather than fear. Growth requires movement, and learning to view time less as a straight line and more as something cyclical has helped. Seasons return, lessons repeat, and progress often happens quietly rather than all at once.

Ending the month reflecting on Paul Farmer’s concept of accompaniment helped tie everything together. Being present with people, especially in uncertain or difficult moments, matters more than having the right answers. Walking alongside others without trying to fix everything has reshaped how I think about support and service. Simply being there can often mean more than we realize.

As I move into February, my focus is simple. I want to be more inquisitive, to ask what more I can do, and then to act on what is in front of me. Not every step needs to be perfectly mapped out. Sometimes showing up and doing what you can is enough, and the rest finds its place along the way.

Peace,

Zechariah Davis

🎧 Songs That Shaped the Month

Am I Dreaming” — Metro Boomin, A$AP Rocky, Roisee
This song opened the year for me — a soundtrack to resetting, reconnecting, and building intentional rhythms after the holidays.

I Remember” — Keyshia Cole
Mid-month, when season and story collided, this track reminded me how memory and meaning can be woven through the highs and lows.

Change” — J. Cole
As routines and transitions started to loom, this one anchored the theme of evolving consistency without losing sight of what matters.

Fantasy” — Earth, Wind & Fire
Toward the end of January, this felt like a light-filled groove — a reminder that presence and curiosity don’t have to be heavy to be meaningful.

🗣 Quotes throughout the Month

Foundation

“A good foundation is what holds things up when life shifts — when you’re busy, when you’re tired, when motivation disappears.”
This idea grounded my January: value the basics more than the headlines.

Fiesta

“You can lose the last game and still win the story.”
Not just a lesson about football, but about resilience and perspective.

Change

Consistency doesn’t mean perfection — it means staying engaged in the cycle and showing up again.
This is the kind of thought that helps you navigate periods of transition.

Accompaniment
Paul Farmer’s idea of accompaniment kept circling in my mind:

Walking with someone through their suffering — not just addressing symptoms, but remaining present.
This shifted the way I think about connection and leadership
